I am almost never 100% sure of what I want to say. Sometimes I am, but most of the time it is an impulse or an idea that comes, takes hold of me and haunts me. It is not until after I go out to paint, write or do something about it that I manage to understand what it could really mean, but sometimes that message never comes through. I am thankful for my friends, people close to me, and people who stop to look at my work because many times, it is through you that I manage to see and understand things about what I create that I would not have been able to understand on my own.

Above all my country and the environment where I grew up has been crucial in the development of Hokzyn. It is the story of a Mexican girl, from the North, with access to two countries, who grew up in a temple as the daughter of a minister. All that configuration in the social structure where I grew up plays an important part in what and how I create today. 646* puro baja kalifas.

I discovered stenciling by accident when I was in high school. I started to enjoy drawing pictures and writing my name in public places, at school, and on the streets I walked often. So one day it crossed my mind to make a drawing and cut it out in a way I could repeat it several times on walls quickly and effectively. That’s how I made the first stencil of the letters HOKZYN, and another of a crazy cat. Then I began to see how the art form already existed and I began to do it more & more until I deciphered the code of the islands and bridges.

I’m not really interested in how the stencil or my work is classified in the world of graffiti or anywhere else, I just do what I want when I want. Ants appeared to me in visions under the effect of a plant called Toloache, or the Devil’s Flower, when I was 15 years old. From then on I began to observe them more closely wherever I found them and since then have learned many things. Ants understand things that we don’t yet, they are an example to me.

In the street and in art, I’m going to break the rules. Graffiti artists should only care about painting as they like, each one doing their own thing, trying to do it harder and more badass each time. TSK:.

Being a girl is always a pain, really. It can offer you shortcuts, but it can also make the road longer. To tell the truth, today it’s not something I focus on in my work and my paintings that much; the value of each person is found in their individuality. I’m ready to live in a world where gender goes to hell. But zero tolerance for macho graffiti artists and TERFas. FTW| ACAB.TSK:.

Zines and graphic design are solid platforms where I have developed my work since I started painting. My work on the wall and the street is always accompanied by a graphic version: on paper, writings, drawings to pass out, gifts, exchanging and continuing to generate income to keep feeding the Hokzyn monster. Clothing is a project that I also incorporate as another way of expressing and expanding the operation.

I have always liked writing, graffiti, prose, stories, etc., and am just beginning to share it more with those close to me and the people who follow my work. That is always a challenge because everything tends to have a very personal note that, after sharing, makes me feel like I’m exposing myself naked to the whole world. But, well, I like that a lot. I think that people who want to read will read, no matter how short or long the text may be. Long live independent publishing and the libertinage of thought.

Sometimes I do think about the future. I like cyberpunk and conspiracy theories, I am excited by the idea of the world ending and society collapsing, and I’m also moved by the idea of death. But in general, it’s not something I think about often. I live one day at a time and I always try to do better the next if I wake up with life.
