TRACI V. LORDS.

I started drawing for my friend’s hardcore bands. At the time I wasn’t looking for a job or anything, I was just creating for fun. For art’s sake. I remember at a Sound and Fury around 2013, I noticed a kid wearing a shirt I drew a few years back… I told him, “Hey, I drew that.” And he said, “No you didn’t.” And because I didn’t sign my art, I couldn’t say anything. I didn’t put my name on it, so it wasn’t real. And then he walked away. That was the first time I thought, ‘Okay, not only can I do this and have my work out there, I could potentially put my name on it.’

The New-School Origins of The Acid Tests. #ChinookJustice

“Invited by colleagues during his time as a graduate student at Stanford University, Ken Kesey volunteered to be a test subject & night guard in hallucinogenic government studies to supplement his income. His time as an MK-ULTRA subject directly inspired his 1962 novel One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest; he often had chances to chat with mental patients, on & off psychedelics. Over time, he didn’t believe them to be insane, but more or less sectioned off from society because they didn’t fit within conventional standards of behavior…”

GUEZ.

I think people tend to forget about the huge background of graffiti in heavy music – punk, hardcore, metal… People have been making zines since the copy machine was invented; even band logos, I mean, look at Dystopia. Graffiti’s behind a lot of these album covers. I think any kid trying to come up off of it should continue to have that enthusiasm because it’s been proven to be a solid foundation for art, whether you’re painting on walls or sketching on a tablet.

Is there a message behind what you choose to draw?

Do it yourself and if you don’t know how, find a friend or someone to learn it from. And when you know it, share it. I have learned the most about drawing from my friends, they are what inspire me and they are my drive to continue doing things, doing it alone makes no sense.
