Tattooing keeps me connected to my self, my soul, my clients, and my community. After 25 years of tattooing and coming from EAST LOS, it also keeps me connected to the past, while keeping tradition alive in my own way.
Lowrider and Chicano culture has informed the lens through which I see life. I’m a Chicano and a Lowrider. It’s in my fabric. On a cellular level, I love the creativity that goes into lowriding. From the candy paint and pinstripes on the cars, to the hydraulics, wire wheels on 520’s, to the style and attitude that comes with it, to the creases in our kackies. The shine on our Stacey Adams. I think it’s the coolest sh*t out there and you will see it Reflected in my art.

Existing as an artist, especially as a tattooer, is punk rock. Especially back in the day, and especially if you were Brown and being your own boss. Feeding my family, staying true to myself, and my love for tattooing is real life. My four kids grew up in my shop, around art and diversity. They learned they can pursue their passion and make it into a profession. I paid my dues and walked the walk. I live and breathe it.
How has staying humble benefitted your career as a professional artist?
Staying humble has kept me drama-free and free from throwing chingasos. Most of the time 😉
